My old nano just broke and I am going to be upgrading to a new ipod. I really want to get the ipod touch. Here's the thing. I only have enough money for the new 8gb. After reading previous posts, I know that the 3g is the same as the 2gin most ways for the 8gb touch. Is it worth getting the 8gb touch over the new nano? How is the internet speed on the 8gb touch? I know it won't be as fast as the 32gb or 64gb, but isthe8gb fast enough that I won'tgo crazy? Thanks all!ipod touch envy.....
Internet speed shouldn't differ because of hard drive size...Unless there are other model differences I'm not aware of?ipod touch envy.....
Here's the differences between the 8gb and 32 / 64gb.
The only real difference is the hard drive size, which effects how much data you can store, in the form of music, apps, videos etc. The internet speed is the same, but you have to be connected to a local wireless network in order to connect to the internet (as opposed to on an iphone where you can access their EDGE network), and so your speed will vary depending on the amount of interferance, distance from router, bandwidth and ping.
There are some other small differences between models too, like I think the 32/64gb models have voice control, and come with headphones with an integrated mic. Nothing that spectacular, though.
Isn't the 8GB significantly slower than the other models? I thought they kept the innards from the previous generation Touch and sped up the processor/increased the memory for the others, so general use and apps should perform better on the 32/64.

As a result, games play better on the 32/64GB models and webpages do load faster thanks to the additional RAM. And yeah, you get the new earphones which are very nice imo. The audio quality is better than the old ones, they have a built in mic which allows you to use voice recognition, and you get the attached remote which allows you to raise/lower the volume and pause songs without having to dig out your ipod, unlock the screen, fiddle around with the settings, and then lock the screen again.
I dont even own anything thats even apple related :/ is an ipod really worth it??

I think I'll make the 32 investment myself in that case.
I dont even own anything thats even apple related :/ is an ipod really worth it??
It depends. If you have iTunes, it's an obvious choice, since they work so well together. If you're using Windows Media Player, or a 3rd party music software, you might be better off with an iRiver or Creative. They're generally cheaper. It comes down to the features you want. The App store on the iPod Touch/ iPhone is a must have though, especially since we're on a gaming site here :), They're actually coming out with some high quality games for that thing..
I dont even own anything thats even apple related :/ is an ipod really worth it??
I personally don't think it is. I've had mine since they launched it, and I'm progressively using it less and less. The music player is meh, and the apps are sort of gimmicky. There are a handful of great apps, but you have to fish around through all the junk. Apple is just the trendy thing to do these days. There are many products out there that do the same thing, if not better and are most likely cheaper as well. Not trying to bash Apple or anything, just saying :P.

No. The third gen Ipod touch's all have 256mb of ram. 1st and 2nd had 128mb. Same goes for the faster processor in all 3rd gen models over the previous 2 gens. The only hardware difference is capacity.
